HMB is proud to sponsor and present at the 2023 Paul J. Hartman State and Local Tax Forum on October 23-25, 2023. Join Jordan M. Goodman for an insightful session focused on state audits. Learn more about his presentation below.
“State Audits and Controversy: Where the Rubber Hits the Road!”
3:15 – 4:15 PM CT | Loews Vanderbilt Hotel, Nashville, TN
Sometimes the best offense is a great defense. Other times, the best offense is just to be good at offense.
During this session, Jordan and his co-speakers Clark Calhoun of Alston & Bird LLP and Brian Kaufman of Capital One Financial Corporation will consider both approaches to state tax disputes by providing strategies for a strong audit defense and for how and when to go on the offense to support filing positions or counter positions. They will also discuss how to reach an “acceptable” settlement or – if that is not possible – fight to the bitter end.
The Paul J. Hartman State & Local Tax Forum was established in 1993 in Nashville, Tennessee. Since that time, the Board of Trustees and Advisory Board have worked together to provide industry, practitioners and state revenue employees the opportunity to participate in a quality forum exploring significant national developments and trends in state and local taxation. The Forum features speakers with the knowledge, experience and communication skills to impart current developments as well as practical solutions and planning opportunities in structuring and reporting state and local tax transactions.
